AIAA 99-3334 Distributed Relaxation Multigrid and Defect Correction Applied to the Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations
نویسنده
چکیده
The distributed-relaxation multigrid and defectcorrection methods are applied to the twodimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The formulation is intended for high Reynolds number applications and several applications are made at a laminar Reynolds number of 10,000. A staggeredgrid arrangement of variables is used; the coupled pressure and internal energy equations are solved together with multigrid, requiring a block 2x2 matrix solution. Textbook multigrid efficiencies are attained for incompressible and slightly compressible simulations of the boundary layer on a flat plate. Textbook efficiencies are obtained for compressible simulations up to Mach numbers of 0.7 for a viscous wake simulation.

O(Nm) Plane Solver for the Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations
A hierarchical multigrid algorithm for e cient steady solutions to the two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations is developed and demonstrated. The algorithm applies multigrid in two ways: a Full Approximation Scheme (FAS) for a nonlinear residual equation and a Correction Scheme (CS) for a linearized defect correction implicit equation. Multigrid analyses which include the e ect of ...

Textbook multigrid efficiencies for high Reynolds number simulations based on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are attained for a model problem of flow past a finite flat plate. Elements of the Full Approximation Scheme multigrid algorithm, including distributed relaxation, defect correction, and boundary treatment, are presented for the three main physical aspects encountered: enteri...

A general multigrid framework is discussed for obtaining textbook e ciency to solutions of the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations in conservation law form. The general methodology relies on a distributed relaxation procedure to reduce errors in regular (smoothly varying) ow regions; separate and distinct treatments for each of the factors (elliptic and/or hyperbolic) are used to att...

Introduction We describe recent developments in the design and implementation of nite element methods for the Navier-Stokes equations modelling chemically reactive ows. The emphasize is on the low-Mach number regime including the limit case of incompressible ow. The most important ingredients are residual driven a posteriori mesh reenement, fully coupled defect-correction iteration for lineariz...
متن کاملEfficient Algorithms for High-Order Discretizations of the Euler and Navier-Stokes Equations
Higher order discretizations have not been widely successful in industrial applications to compressible flow simulation. Among several reasons for this, one may identify the lack of tailor-suited, best-practice relaxation techniques that compare favorably to highly tuned lower order methods, such as finite-volume schemes. In this paper we investigate efficient Spectral Difference discretization...
